The August 30, 2018 edition of NEJM presents an interesting case discussion with two different assessments of the ECMO to Rescue Lung Injury in Severe ARDS (EOLIA) trial data. While the study has design flaws and limitations in clinical practice, it is nonetheless the largest ECMO RCT to date. I’ve included one author’s assessment of the trial and the original paper below.
